The Northwest Ordinance:
Twenty-First Century Edition

By Michael Ceraolo

We the people who believe in the credo
of the infallibility of the Founding Fathers,
seeking to give meaning to the phrase ownership society,
do hereby propose to re-enact the follwing provisions:
                                                                                   "That
a freehold of fifty acres of land in the district"
(or its equivalent in liquidity)
"shall be necessary to qualify a man
as an elector of a representative"
                                                  and
                                                         "That
no person be eligible or qualified to act as a representative
unless he shall . . . hold in his own right,
                                                             in fee simple,
two hundred acres of land"
(or its equivalent in liquidity)
"It is hereby ordained and declared"
