Scrub jay in flight

blue darning needles —
scrub jays lace in-and-out
of the pines

Donald Gaither has had various careers, such as teaching social studies and coaching swimming; and spending 23 years in the Army and Reserve service, including two tours with Advisory Teams in Vietnam. He is retired from the U.S. Civil Service. He has been published in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, Asimov Anthology, Masters of Science Fiction, Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum, Dark Stars and Dragons, Bear Creek Haiku, Lyrical Passion Poetry, Aurorean and Modern Haiku. In addition, he has written stories, articles and news releases for Stars and Stripes, The Army Times and UPI news services. He is a disabled veteran due to exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam but is doing fine.
