Throughout a lifetime of experiences, we traverse a multitude of worlds: between life and death, waking and sleeping, truth and fiction. We are faced with choices, often standing on the cusp, wondering whether we dare step over, whether we should traverse the mythical Rubicon, beyond which there is no coming back.

In this issue, writers and artists negotiate those worlds. Sometimes the protagonists in these stories, the speakers of these poems decide to take a crucial step; sometimes we catch them right in their moment of indecision.

As the last days of spring segue into a steamy summer, we invite you to take those journeys with them. The door is open: dare you step across?
