Graduates embracing in front of an artificial inside beach

Standing

by Peter Layton

In a saved away drawer;
buttons and pinions,
rosettes
small, large, things you might've held
ginger, cinnamon,
gold

tassels from high school
things we never get over
seeing you there
like swimming
like being in the sucked hole,
the vortex of the blowing inward
gulfs of sand
the machined water.
