Would You Believe?

By Gerald Zipper

Would you believe me
if I told you I can't live without you?
would you believe me
if I told you I would never make love to another woman?
would you believe me
if I told you the earth was round and its edges flat?
would you believe me
if I said people slipped off the edges?
wandered blindly in space?
had to battle dust particles in storms?
would you believe me
if I told you voices from the sky told me dangle on my head?
would you dangle with me?
if I told you idiocy was a unique sign of intelligence?
if I swore gibberish from universities produced awards?
if I stated computers and critics eat in the same restaurant?
repeat the same lives?
would you believe
war is the result of gaseous indigestion?
would you believe me
if I told you truth was an impediment to success?
if I said you are allotted only one love for a lifetime?
would you understand
if I offered to switch places with you?
wanted to try on your life?
