Fun Lovin' Criminals

(continued)

Interview by Rada Djurica

Aren’t you afraid that the name of the band Fun Lovin’ Criminals can attract a lots of real life criminals?

Huey: I think that's not matter of the name, the band Fun Lovin’ Criminals is very careful in Serbia. There are lots of criminals reported in New York City as well as here. You just kind of watch out and are careful with men.

What about music for films. Anything yet?

Huey: There are a couple of scores from last year. Some of it didn’t come out yet.

What kind of films?

Huey: City urban films. We don’t want to do romantic comedy stuff. You know, maybe films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, films that are more edgier.

What about an interesting role?

Huey: You did lots of homework, didn’t you? My friend wrote a movie and he said, “Don’t worry about playing a part.” So I played the part of the transvestite drug dealer.

And did you kill in the role?

Huey: No, my head is killing people. I mess their head up. I just get mad and hit them with in the slice.

What is the next movie? What film director you would like to work with?

Huey: Nowadays you don’t have a idea what movie we'll do next. You used to have a pretty good idea what kind of movie you will do by the director. Now all that is thrown out of the window. There are lots of young independent directors who are making movies on digital video. Whoever with, we’ll do it as long as he has a good idea.

Do you get involved with film directors?

Huey: You mean physically? Nowadays it’s a different kind of thing; now we are making it for ourselves. When we’re doing it, we are just trying to help directors to realize his vision.

Maybe more mature visual styling. It’s kind of — If I’m going to Spain, then my character speaks Spanish. Today it’s kind of mixing thing up.

Are you gonna do some DJ-ing tonight?

Huey: We are going to do it right now. We can do some DJ-ing and clear the room for us. Perfect. We're going to DJ for awhile and I think it’s a kind of important for us. We’ll say: “They don’t know us. We don’t know them. We're going to set the mood first.”

Fast: The DJ’s frozen right now, we gonna take him out and…”

Where is the best gig?

Huey: I would like to say this: People in the USA have no idea what is going on in the world. They don’t have a worldview. Its like if we traveled around Europe, around Asia, we have a pretty good idea what was going on in that world. And people in the USA are pretty daft; they have no idea what is going on in the world. It’s pretty interesting for them to get to know. Its like they don’t have CNN or something.

What about Australia?

Fast: We've always been there, people out there know.

Huey: I think we’ll go in the right time of year? Bars are good. That was good, we went there a couple of times.

Fast: Yes.

Who have you been collaborating with?

Huey: We worked with Sade. We worked with Shirley Manson [Garbage], Avril Lavigne… we are great fans of her. We think that we can make a dream team with that young woman.

Choose: Kylie Minoque or Madonna?

Huey: They are both crap. Definitely Kylie. Madonna is a little screwy in the head. Kylie is... she went out with my cousin. She's still single, you know. We don’t know any of them personally, but as singers, they are both kind of awful.

You wrote some of your songs with Quentin Tarantino?

Huey: No, we’re not his friends; we did not write any song with him. We sampled the film, and his lawyers made it seem as we have been writing with him. This is a taken sample, and our lawyers got involved. We never met the guy. Well, we did met the guy. But when he makes his movies…we like his movies. You have to separate the artist from his work and send them lawyers instead. [laughter] Great movies.

Can we ask you guys a question? Let’s turn the camera on the opposite direction. What sport is this place for, hockey or basketball?”

Reporters: Basketball.
